- This is the second time Ben Affleck has directed an adaptation of a Dennis Lehane novel since the release of 'Gone Baby Gone' (2007).
- Filming began on October 28, 2015. In mid-November, filming took place in Lawrence, and also in Boston on November 20th. From the beginning of December 2015, filming took place in Los Angeles.
