Short description
Danny Muldoon is a Chicago police officer in his late thirties who still lives with his mother, Rose. He meets Theresa Luna, whose family runs a funeral parlour, and the two begin a relationship. Rose, an opinionated Irish woman, disapproves of the match, leaving Danny caught between his loyalty to his mother and his feelings for Theresa.
Chris Columbus directed and wrote the film, the third of the seventeen features he has directed, arriving between Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. John Hughes and Hunt Lowry produced. John Candy plays Danny, with Maureen O'Hara as Rose, Ally Sheedy as Theresa, and Kevin Dunn, Milo O'Shea and Bert Remsen among a credited cast of thirty-three.
The film was released in May 1991 and took about 25 million dollars worldwide at the box office. On IMDb it holds a critics' rating of 6 out of 10 from 23 reviews, while on TMDB audiences give it 6.2 out of 10 from 203 votes, so reviewers and viewers land in much the same place.
