Come Drink with Me

Come Drink with Me is a Hong Kong martial arts adventure set in a China of bandits and imperial officials. When a group of outlaws led by Jade Faced Tiger seizes a government official's son and holds him hostage, demanding the release of their imprisoned leader in exchange, the authorities call in Golden Sparrow. She is highly skilled with a sword and is sent to rescue the captive, though the sources differ on whether he is the governor's son or her own brother. She first clashes with the gang at an inn, then teams up with a wandering drunk known as Drunken Cat, who turns out to be much more capable than his shabby appearance suggests.

King Hu directed the film and wrote the screenplay with Ting Shan-Hsi; it was his first directorial credit and the earliest of the six features listed for him, followed by Dragon Inn in 1967, A Touch of Zen in 1970, Raining in the Mountain in 1979, Swordsman in 1990 and Painted Skin in 1993. Cheng Pei-pei leads as Golden Sparrow, with Elliot Ngok Wah as Drunken Cat, Chen Hung-Lieh as Jade Faced Tiger and Yang Chi-Ching as Abbot Liao Kung. Run Run Shaw produced through Shaw Brothers.

The film runs 91 minutes. Audiences rate it at 6.9 out of 10 on IMDb, from about 5,600 votes, and 6.7 out of 10 on TMDB, from roughly 170 votes, with the larger sample suggesting a moderately well-regarded genre entry.
