Batman

Batman and Robin are called into action when four of Gotham City's most persistent criminals — the Joker, the Penguin, the Riddler and the Catwoman — join forces. The villains have obtained a device capable of dehydrating living beings, and they intend to use it to hold the world to ransom. The authorities, unable to deal with the threat themselves, summon the masked crime-fighters, who set out to stop the scheme.

The film is a feature-length extension of the television series that had made the characters widely popular that same year, with the same actors playing the leading roles. Leslie H. Martinson directed it, placing it between PT 109 (1963) and Fathom (1967) in his filmography, from a screenplay by Lorenzo Semple Jr., with William Dozier producing. Adam West and Burt Ward star as Batman and Robin, alongside Lee Meriwether as the Catwoman, Cesar Romero as the Joker, Burgess Meredith as the Penguin and Frank Gorshin as the Riddler, in a credited cast of 88.

Made for about a million dollars for 20th Century Fox, William Dozier Productions and Greenlawn Productions, the film took roughly four times that amount at the worldwide box office. Audience ratings sit in the middle range: on IMDb it holds 6.5 out of 10 from around 38,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.4 out of 10 from about 1,100 votes.
