V/H/S: Viral
Short description
This horror thriller follows people in Los Angeles who are obsessed with achieving internet fame. As a strange police pursuit involving a vehicle causes chaos on the streets, crowds of teenagers and onlookers gather with cameras to film the spectacle. However, those attempting to exploit the situation for viral views soon find themselves becoming the targets of a deadly event. The story unfolds through several segments featuring characters such as skateboarders and mad doctors.
The film was a joint production between the United States and Spain, involving companies including Bloody Disgusting and Studio71. It was directed by a team consisting of Marcel Sarmiento, Nacho Vigalondo, Gregg Bishop, Aaron Moorhead, Todd Lincoln, and Justin Benson. This project followed previous works for several of the directors, such as The ABCs of Death for Sarmiento and Vigalondo, and Resolution for Moorhead and Benson. The screenplay was written by Sarmiento, Vigalondo, and Bishop. The cast includes Patrick Lawrie, Emilia Ares, Celia K. Milius, Steve Berens, Garrett Bales, and Stephanie Silver, as part of a credited cast of 79 people.
The movie received generally negative feedback from viewers and critics. On TMDB, it holds a rating of 4.8/10 based on 724 votes. Film critics provided a lower score of 4.1/10 from 31 reviews.

- At one point, an image of Lily, played by Hannah Fireman from one of the stories in the 2012 horror film "V/H/S" (directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, David Bruckner, Tyler Gillett, Justin Martinez, Glenn McQuaid, Joe Swanberg, Chad Villella, Ti West, and Adam Wingard), flashes on the screen.
- In the scene in the ice cream truck while the recordings are loading, a scene from the 2013 horror film "V/H/S/2" (directed by Simon Barrett, Jason Eisener, Gareth Evans, Gregg Hale, Eduardo Sánchez, Timo Tjahjanto, and Adam Wingard) can be seen on one of the cameras.
- In May 2015, it was announced that the film would be released in theaters in February 2016, but it was released directly to video in July 2016.
- What they talk about in school regarding toxoplasma gondii (a single-celled parasitic microorganism capable of causing toxoplasmosis) and fly larvae is pure truth, not a product of the screenwriters’ imagination.
- The virus image shown on the news program is the same one demonstrated in Wolfgang Petersen's 1995 thriller “Outbreak,” only the red color was changed to blue. The fictional motaba virus from “Outbreak” is very similar to the Ebola virus.
- The film uses archival footage of US President Barack Obama speaking about an epidemic, but he is referring to the outbreak of the disease caused by the Ebola virus in West Africa between December 2013 and June 2016.
