Prep & Landing
Short description
Prep & Landing is a short animated Christmas film about Wayne, a veteran elf in a highly trained unit that prepares homes around the world for Santa Claus's arrival. Wayne has spent centuries in this work and expects a promotion, but instead the job goes to his former partner, and he is assigned to train Lanny, an eager newcomer. The two are sent out together on Christmas Eve, where their differing attitudes toward the job and a threat to the night's deliveries put the holiday at risk.
The film was released in 2009 and runs 22 minutes. It was directed by Kevin Deters and Stevie Wermers-Skelton, who also wrote the screenplay, with Dorothy McKim producing for Walt Disney Pictures and Walt Disney Animation Studios. Dave Foley voices Wayne, Derek Richardson voices Lanny, and Sarah Chalke, Mason Vale Cotton, David DeLuise and Peter Jacobson are among the voice cast. It is the first of several television specials the directing pair made featuring these characters, followed by Prep & Landing Stocking Stuffer: Operation: Secret Santa in 2010, Prep & Landing: Naughty vs. Nice in 2011, and later Olaf's Frozen Adventure in 2017.
On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.6 from roughly 4,700 votes, while on TMDB it has a rating of 6.9 from about 160 votes.
What's left behind the scenes
- The animated model of the German Shepherd that the elves deal with at the very beginning is the same one used in the 2008 film 'Bolt'. They differ only in color.
- In one scene, the Christmas tree from Bill Melendez's 'A Charlie Brown Christmas' (1965) appears on screen. Even the needles fall off in the same order and with the same sound as in Melendez's film.
- The short hairstyle of the elf voiced by Sarah Choke was modeled after the hairstyle of producer Dorothy McKim, daughter-in-law of the legendary artist Sammy McKim (1924-2004).
