The Land That Time Forgot

During the First World War, a German U-boat sinks a British vessel and takes the survivors on board. The prisoners turn the tables and seize control of the submarine, but a German officer alters the compass, sending the vessel off course. The U-boat drifts into fog and reaches Caprona, an uncharted island near Antarctica where prehistoric creatures and primitive tribes still exist, cut off from the rest of the world. The stranded crew must survive both the dangers of the island and the tensions among themselves.

The film is directed by Kevin Connor, working from a screenplay by Michael Moorcock and James Cawthorn, and is based on Edgar Rice Burroughs's story. It was the first feature Connor directed, followed the same year by From Beyond the Grave and later by titles including At the Earth's Core and Motel Hell. Doug McClure leads the cast as Bowen Tyler, with John McEnery, Susan Penhaligon, Keith Barron, Anthony Ainley and Godfrey James among the principals. Produced by Amicus Productions with American International Pictures and British Lion Films, it took about four million dollars worldwide.

On IMDb it holds 5.6/10 from around 8,000 votes, and on TMDB 5.7/10 from roughly 200 votes, placing the two audience measures close together. A critics' rating of 5/10 from 14 reviews sits only slightly below those audience scores, suggesting a modest but fairly consistent reception across viewers and reviewers.
