The Last American Virgin
Short description
The Last American Virgin follows three high school friends in Los Angeles who spend their time chasing girls and navigating the pressures of adolescence. Gary delivers pizzas and is the sensitive, inexperienced one of the group. Rick is confident and popular with girls, while David is awkward but less shy than Gary. Their bond is tested when Gary falls for Karen, a new girl in the neighborhood, only to find that she is drawn to Rick instead. The romantic triangle threatens to turn the friends into rivals.
Boaz Davidson directed and wrote the screenplay, working with producers Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus under Cannon Group and Golan-Globus Productions. The film came in the middle of a run of comedies Davidson made during this period, after Lemon Popsicle and Hot Bubblegum and before Private Popsicle and Salsa. Lawrence Monoson leads as Gary, with Diane Franklin as Karen, Steve Antin as Rick, Joe Rubbo as David, and Louisa Moritz and Brian Peck in supporting roles. It runs 93 minutes.
Released in June 1982, the film took in about 6 million dollars worldwide, a modest return for its time. On IMDb it holds a 6 out of 10 rating from 13 critics' reviews, while on TMDB it has a 6.6 out of 10 from 266 votes, indicating a somewhat warmer response from general viewers than from professional reviewers.

- The film is based on a situation that happened to Boaz Davidson in his youth.
- At the Big Apple party, in the bathroom, you can notice posters of the bands “Oingo Boingo” and “Devo,” whose songs are featured in this film.
- Diane Franklin, who played Karen, is deaf in her left ear. This is why she is never shown riding a moped in the film. Any hearing impairment affects the ability to maintain balance to the extent that riding a bicycle, moped, or motorcycle becomes impossible. Franklin herself revealed this on set.
