Short description
Alan Jensen is a philosophy student at Harvard and the star of the university basketball team. His life begins to unravel when he needs a large sum of money and becomes entangled with Cindy Bandolini, a wealthy, manipulative classmate whose father is a powerful Mafia figure who takes an interest in the pair's betting scheme. As the FBI closes in and the scheme turns dangerous, Alan seeks refuge with Chesney Cort, his philosophy professor, with whom he is having an affair. The film follows the characters through a web of sex, crime and personal experimentation as Alan tries to extricate himself.
James Toback wrote and directed the film, which followed his 1999 release Black and White. Sarah Michelle Gellar plays Cindy, with Adrian Grenier as Alan, Joey Lauren Adams as Chesney, and Eric Stoltz, Rebecca Gayheart and John Neville in supporting roles.
Released in August 2001, the film runs 99 minutes and is a drama set in the United States. It holds a rating of 4.7 out of 10 on TMDB, based on 50 votes, and a critics' rating of 4.6 out of 10 from 36 reviews, indicating broadly similar reception among critics and audiences.
