Dar, a warrior able to communicate with animals, finds his mystical homeland threatened by his tyrannical brother Arklon, who has seized power following the death of King Zed. Arklon and the sorceress Lyranna open a time portal to 1990s Los Angeles, where they intend to steal a newly developed nuclear weapon and use it to secure unchallenged rule over Dar's world. Pursuing them through the portal, Dar arrives in modern America, accompanied by his animal companions, and must stop the theft before the weapon can be used. Marc Singer returns as Dar, the role he originated in the earlier Beastmaster films, alongside Kari Wuhrer, Sarah Douglas, Wings Hauser, Robert Fieldsteel and Arthur Malet.
The film is directed by Sylvio Tabet, who also wrote and produced it with Jim Wynorski and R.J. Robertson. It is the third entry in the Beastmaster series and moves the character into a present-day setting. Made for about 6 million dollars, it runs 107 minutes and was released in June 1991.
Audience response has been weak: on IMDb it holds 4.2 out of 10 from roughly 3,900 votes, and on TMDB 4.7 out of 10 from a much smaller sample of 87 votes. A critics' rating of 3.5 out of 10 from five reviews places it slightly below even the modest audience scores.
