I Saw the Sun

The Altun family lives in a small village in southeastern Turkey, where a decades-long war makes daily survival a struggle. As the conflict worsens, the Kurdish family is forced to leave their home and migrate toward Istanbul. The family members face divergent paths and hardships; while some settle in the city, others use smugglers to seek refuge in Norway, where they live as refugees working in supermarkets. Internal family tensions rise as some children join opposing sides of the military conflict, and one son suffers a permanent injury from a landmine.

Directed and written by Mahsun Kırmızıgül, this drama followed his 2007 film White Angel and preceded Five Minarets in New York. Kırmızıgül also produced the movie and stars as Ramo, appearing alongside Demet Evgar, Murat Ünalmış, Altan Erkekli, Erol Demiröz, and Cemal Toktas. The production featured a credited cast of 45 actors.
