Delirious

Jack Gable writes scripts for a popular soap opera, and when he is knocked out in a car accident he comes to inside the show's fictional town, surrounded by the characters he invented. He soon realises that whatever he types on his typewriter comes true in this world, which gives him a way to shape events to his liking. He sets out to win over the show's leading lady, only to find his plans repeatedly complicated by another woman in the cast.

Tom Mankiewicz directed the film, his second feature after Dragnet in 1987, from a screenplay by Lawrence J. Cohen and Fred Freeman, who also produced with Doug Claybourne. John Candy stars as Jack, with Mariel Hemingway, Emma Samms, Raymond Burr, Dylan Baker and Charles Rocket among a credited cast of 41. The production had a budget of 18 million US dollars and took about 6 million worldwide, a small return on its cost.

On IMDb the film holds a 5.3 rating from 21 reviews, while on TMDB it rates 5.7 from 174 votes, so critics and audiences landed in similar territory. Released in August 1991, it is a comedy with fantasy and romance elements built around the contrast between a writer's control over his story and the people inside it.
