Doctor Who: The Time of the Doctor is a 2013 British television film set within the long-running science fiction series. A remote, quiet planet becomes the gathering point for the universe's most dangerous species, all drawn there by a strange signal travelling among the stars. The Doctor is among those who arrive, having pulled Clara Oswald away from a family Christmas dinner. Together they must work out what the signal means, both for the Time Lord himself and for the wider universe.
Jamie Payne directed the film, which was his first feature-length directing credit and came roughly a decade before Luther: The Fallen Sun, his next film in that role. Steven Moffat wrote the screenplay, and Marcus Wilson produced it for BBC Wales. Matt Smith plays the Doctor, with Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald, Peter Capaldi as another incarnation of the Doctor, Karen Gillan as Amy Pond, Orla Brady as Tasha Lem and Kayvan Novak providing the voice of Handles. Running an hour, it blends drama and science fiction as a Christmas special.
On TMDB it holds a rating of 8.1 out of 10 from 324 votes, a strong audience score for a television film. The ensemble brings together departing and incoming faces from the series, giving the production a sense of transition.
