Sherlock: The Abominable Bride

Sherlock: The Abominable Bride takes the characters of the BBC series Sherlock back to Victorian London in 1895, where Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson are already well known through Watson's published accounts of their cases. Inspector Lestrade of Scotland Yard brings them the strange affair of Emelia Ricoletti, a woman said to have fired into a crowd from a balcony in her wedding dress before killing herself, only to be seen hours later, apparently alive, killing her husband. Holmes, Watson and their circle must work out how such a thing is possible.

The film is directed by Douglas Mackinnon from a screenplay by Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat, with Sue Vertue producing for the BBC. Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman lead as Holmes and Watson, joined by Una Stubbs as Mrs. Hudson, Rupert Graves as Lestrade, Mark Gatiss as Mycroft Holmes and Andrew Scott as Professor Moriarty. It stands as a standalone Victorian episode placed between the modern-day seasons of the series.

On TMDB it holds a rating of 7.8 out of 10 from more than two thousand votes, indicating a generally favourable response from viewers. The film runs 90 minutes and mixes crime, drama, mystery and thriller elements.
