Five women are working late in a lingerie shop inside a high-rise office building, taking inventory after hours. A storm outside cuts them off from leaving or calling for help, and one by one the people in the building become targets of a killer. The women suspect the building's odd janitor, who had been caught up in an earlier string of deaths, but what is actually hunting them is something none of them expects.
Hard to Die was released in 1990, an 84-minute blend of action, comedy and thriller set in the United States and produced by Miracle Pictures, Pacific Trust and New Classics. Jim Wynorski directed from a screenplay by Mark Thomas McGee and J.B. Rogers, and he also produced. It was the fifth of the 23 films he has directed, arriving after The Return of Swamp Thing and before Munchie. The cast is led by Gail Harris, Karen Mayo-Chandler, Deborah Dutch, Melissa Moore and Bridget Carney as the five women, with Peter Spellos as the janitor Orville Ketchum.
On IMDb the film holds a rating of 4.8 from around 1,700 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.1 from a much smaller pool of about 70 votes. The gap reflects how few viewers have logged it on the latter site, and the overall picture is of a low-budget genre title with a modest but persistent following rather than wide acclaim.
