Short description
Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk follows a nineteen-year-old soldier who returns to the United States with the surviving members of his squad after a battle in Iraq. Filmed by news cameras during the fighting, the men are turned into national heroes and sent on a promotional tour that ends with a halftime show at a Thanksgiving football game. As the celebrations unfold, Billy's memories of what actually happened in Iraq come back to him, and the gap widens between the public image of the squad and the war they lived through. His sister Kathryn is among those who question the heroes' welcome, and the soldiers face the prospect of returning to the front.
Ang Lee directed the film, the thirteenth of the fourteen features he has made, arriving between Life of Pi and Gemini Man. The screenplay is by Jean-Christophe Castelli, and Lee produced with Marc Platt and Stephen Cornwell. Joe Alwyn plays Billy, with Kristen Stewart as Kathryn, Garrett Hedlund as David Dime, Chris Tucker as Albert, Makenzie Leigh as Faison, and Vin Diesel as Shroom.
Released in 2016, the film had a budget of forty million dollars and took about thirty-one million worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.2 from more than twenty-three thousand votes, while on TMDB it has a 6 from around six hundred votes. A critics' rating of 5.3 from 162 reviews places it below both audience scores.
