Short description
Burnt follows Adam Jones, an American chef whose talent and celebrity in Paris were undone by drugs and erratic behavior. After a period away, he resurfaces in London and sets out to rebuild his reputation. He takes over a restaurant run by an old friend and assembles a kitchen crew, aiming for three Michelin stars. His ambition puts him at odds with Helene, a gifted cook who wants nothing to do with him, and with the staff he drives hard toward an exacting standard. A second chance at the top of his profession is the film's central conflict.
John Wells directed from a screenplay by Steven Knight, with Stacey Sher, Erwin Stoff and Wells producing. Bradley Cooper leads as Adam, alongside Sienna Miller as Helene, Omar Sy as Michel, Daniel Brühl as Tony, Riccardo Scamarcio as Max and Sam Keeley as David. It was Wells's third feature, after The Company Men and August: Osage County, and arrived in October 2015.
Made for about 20 million dollars, it took in roughly 37 million worldwide, a modest return. On IMDb it holds 6.6/10 from 142,000 votes and on TMDB 6.5/10 from 3,637 votes, while film critics rated it 5/10 across 159 reviews, placing professional assessment below general audience scores.
What's left behind the scenes
- Michelle Williams and Marion Cotillard were considered for the lead female role, which ultimately went to Sienna Miller.
- In 2008, David Fincher was slated to direct the film, with Keanu Reeves in the lead role. Fincher left the project in 2010.

(It should be noted that all the roles were already taken at that point.) Weinstein predicted a great future for the actress in Hollywood. Vikander had already starred in the romantic story "Tulip Fever", produced by "The Weinstein Company", which is scheduled for release next year.
