XX is a horror anthology consisting of four dark stories written and directed by women. The collection explores traditional horror themes through a female perspective, featuring segments such as a boy whose behavior changes after seeing the contents of a stranger's gift box, a doll that terrifies its owners by moving its body, and a supernatural creature that haunts a group of friends.
Released in 2017, the film was a joint production between Canada and the United States involving companies like XYZ Films and Scythia Films. It was directed by Karyn Kusama, Jovanka Vuckovic, Roxanne Benjamin, and St. Vincent. This project followed Kusama's 2016 film The Invitation and preceded her 2018 movie Destroyer. For Roxanne Benjamin and Jovanka Vuckovic, it sat between Southbound and their respective later works, Final Stop and There's Something Wrong with the Children. The cast includes Natalie Brown, Jonathan Watton, Peter DaCunha, Peyton Kennedy, Ron Lea, and Michael Dyson, with a total of 34 credited actors and a crew of 162.
Audience reception was mixed, with a rating of 5/10 on TMDB based on 472 votes. Professional critics gave the film a slightly higher score of 6/10 based on 64 reviews.
