The Gallows

The Gallows is a horror film set in a high school in Beatrice, Nebraska, where a student named Charlie Grimille died during a 1993 production of a play called The Gallows. He had taken over the lead role that night and was accidentally hanged at the end of the performance. Twenty years later, the school's drama group decides to stage the same play again as a tribute to him. On the eve of the opening night, four students involved in the production find themselves locked inside the auditorium and begin searching for a way out. It becomes clear that Charlie's presence has not left the building.

The film was directed by Travis Cluff and Chris Lofing, who also wrote the screenplay; Cluff served as a producer alongside Guymon Casady and Jason Blum. It was their first feature, followed years later by Night of the Missing in 2023. The cast includes Reese Mishler, Pfeifer Brown, Ryan Shoos and Cassidy Gifford, with Price T. Morgan and Cluff in supporting roles. Made by Warner Bros. Pictures, New Line Cinema and Blumhouse Productions, it grossed about 43 million USD worldwide.

Audience response was weak. On IMDb it holds a rating of 4.3 out of 10 from roughly 23,000 votes, and on TMDB 4.9 out of 10 from about a thousand votes. A critics' rating of 3.4 out of 10 from 114 reviews places professional assessment below even the modest audience scores.
