A police officer named Frank Spivey rescues a young woman with a badly disfigured face from an attacker who is about to kill her. Learning that she has nowhere to go, he brings her into his home rather than see her sent to a psychiatric hospital. The decision unsettles his wife and son, and his commitment to the woman, Jenifer, gradually turns into an obsession that puts the people around him at risk. The film is a horror television movie built around a small cast and a single escalating situation.
It was directed by Dario Argento, the fourteenth of the seventeen films he has directed in chronological order, arriving after The Phantom of the Opera and before The Mother of Tears. The screenplay is by Steven Weber, who also plays Frank Spivey, with Carrie Fleming as Jenifer and supporting turns from Laurie Brunetti, Kevin Crofton, Beau Starr and Julia Arkos. Tom Rowe and Lisa Richardson produced. Running just under an hour, it is a compact production.
On TMDB it holds a rating of 6 out of 10 from 131 votes, a modest but not dismissive response from the users who have logged it. The film sits among the shorter works in Argento's later career, made for television rather than cinemas.
