Star 80

Star 80 tells the story of Dorothy Stratten, a young woman working behind the counter of a Dairy Queen in Vancouver when she meets Paul Snider, a small-time hustler who sees her as his ticket to a better life. He persuades her to pose for photographs and sends them to Playboy, and she is taken on as a Playmate, eventually becoming Playmate of the Year. As her modelling career grows, she begins to pursue acting and marries Paul, who had become her manager. While her success increases, his own prospects falter, and his jealousy and possessiveness take hold as she gains independence and becomes involved with a film director. The film is based on the real events surrounding Stratten's life and death.

Bob Fosse directed and wrote the screenplay; it was the fifth film he directed, following Sweet Charity, Cabaret, Lenny and All That Jazz. Mariel Hemingway plays Dorothy Stratten, Eric Roberts plays Paul Snider, and Cliff Robertson appears as Hugh Hefner. Carroll Baker, Roger Rees and David Clennon are also in the cast, among 78 credited cast members and 61 credited crew.

Star 80 was released in November 1983 and runs 103 minutes. It took about 6 million US dollars at the worldwide box office.
