James White

James White is a drama about a young man in New York City whose life of drinking and drifting is upended when his mother's serious illness worsens. As her condition declines and setbacks mount, James is pushed to take on responsibilities he has long avoided, and the film follows his struggle to hold himself together under the growing pressure. The story stays close to him and to his relationship with his mother, Gail, as he tries to find some direction.

The film was directed and written by Josh Mond, who also produced it alongside Antonio Campos, Sean Durkin and Max Born. It was Mond's first feature as director, arriving before his later film It Doesn't Matter. Christopher Abbott plays James, with Cynthia Nixon as Gail. Kid Cudi, Makenzie Leigh, Ron Livingston and David Call appear in supporting roles among a credited cast of 31. The film runs 87 minutes.

Released in November 2015, James White drew a critics' rating of 7.5 out of 10 from 75 reviews, higher than its audience scores of 7.1 on IMDb from around 7,500 votes and 6.6 on TMDB from about 130 votes. That gap suggests critics responded to the film more strongly than general viewers did, while the IMDb figure indicates a reasonably positive if modest audience following.
