A twelve-year-old boy named Billy Heywood inherits the Minnesota Twins when his grandfather, the team's owner, dies. Billy knows baseball well and quickly installs himself as manager, a decision that unsettles the players and the front office, who are not used to taking orders from a child. His mother Jenny and the team's personnel find themselves navigating a professional club now run by a preteen, and Billy has to prove he belongs in the job while the athletes deal with their own frustrations about the game.
Andrew Scheinman directed the film, working from a screenplay by Gregory K. Pincus and Adam Scheinman. Luke Edwards plays Billy, with Timothy Busfield, John Ashton, Ashley Crow, Kevin Dunn and Billy L. Sullivan among the cast. Released in June 1994, the comedy runs 119 minutes and was produced by Columbia Pictures, Castle Rock Entertainment and Lobell/Bergman Productions.
The film took in about 12 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a 6.2 rating from roughly 12,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6 from around 122 votes. A critics' rating of 5.6 from 20 reviews places it close to the audience scores, suggesting a similar overall response from both groups.
