Piranha II: The Spawning

Piranha II: The Spawning is a 1982 horror film set on a Caribbean resort island, where a sunken freighter has become the lair of a mutated strain of piranha. After a series of strange deaths, scuba diving instructor Anne Kimbrough begins looking into what is killing people in the water. She is helped by Tyler Sherman, a biochemist with ties to the creatures, while her ex-husband, the local police chief, is drawn into the growing crisis as the fish move beyond the wreck.

The film was directed by James Cameron, the first of the fifteen features he has directed in chronological order, ahead of The Terminator in 1984. Cameron also shares screenplay credit with Ovidio G. Assonitis and Charles H. Eglee. Tricia O'Neil plays Anne, with Steve Marachuk as Tyler, Lance Henriksen as Police Chief Steve Kimbrough, Ricky Paull Goldin as Chris Kimbrough, Ted Richert as Raoul and Leslie Graves as Allison Dumont. Thirty cast members and forty-eight crew members are credited.

Released in July 1982, the film runs 94 minutes and was produced across the Netherlands Antilles, Italy, the Netherlands and the United States by Columbia Pictures, Chako Film Company and Brouwersgracht Investments. Reception has been weak across the board. On IMDb it holds a rating of 3.8 from around 11,000 votes, and on TMDB 4.3 from roughly 324 votes. A critics' rating of 3.1 from 26 reviews sits below even those audience scores.
