November Criminals

Addison Schacht is a rebellious high-school senior in Washington, D.C., whose last year has been spent dealing drugs, insulting teachers and collecting offensive jokes at his classmates' expense. After a classmate, Kevin, is shot dead, Addison grows dissatisfied with the official account and starts looking into the killing himself, joined by his friend Phoebe. What the two turn up leads them further into the city's underworld and into a truth darker than they expected.

The film adapts Sam Munson's novel and was directed by Sacha Gervasi, who wrote the screenplay with Steven Knight. It is the second feature Gervasi directed, following Hitchcock. Ansel Elgort plays Addison and Chloë Grace Moretz plays Phoebe, with David Strathairn, Catherine Keener, Terry Kinney and Cory Hardrict among the supporting cast; 44 actors are credited in all. It runs 86 minutes.

Released in November 2017, the film drew a critics' rating of 3.3 out of 10 from 12 reviews, while audiences were somewhat warmer: it holds 5.3 out of 10 on IMDb from around 12,000 votes and 5.3 out of 10 on TMDB from roughly 690 votes. That gap suggests viewers found more to engage with than critics did, though neither group rated it highly.
