Short description

Vijay Salgaonkar runs a cable television network in a remote, hilly village in Goa. He is an orphan who left school after the fourth grade and built his modest success through his own effort, so he avoids luxury and lives frugally with his wife Nandini and their two daughters. His chief passion is cinema, and he spends whole nights in his office watching one film after another on television. When a teenage boy disappears and suspicion falls on the Salgaonkar family, Vijay sets out to shield his wife and children from the police investigation, drawing on his street sense and his intimate knowledge of movies to keep the inquiry from closing in on them. The missing boy is the son of a senior police officer, which raises the stakes for both sides.

Directed by Nishikant Kamat from a screenplay by Upendra Sidhaye, the Hindi-language film was produced by Abhishek Pathak, Kumar Mangat Pathak and Sarita Patil for Viacom18 Studios and Panorama Studios, on a budget of about 9 million dollars. Ajay Devgn plays Vijay, with Tabu as IG Meera Deshmukh, Shriya Saran as Nandini, Ishita Dutta and Mrunal Jadhav as the daughters, and Rajat Kapoor as Mahesh Deshmukh; twenty performers receive credit.

Reception split along familiar lines for a popular thriller. Film critics gave it 6.5 out of 10 across 18 reviews, while on IMDb it holds 8.2 from around 108,000 votes and on TMDB 7.5 from roughly 511 votes, so audiences rate it considerably higher than reviewers do.
