Battle Royale II: Requiem

Battle Royale II: Requiem is a Japanese action thriller released in 2003, set three years after the events of Battle Royale. Shuya Nanahara, a survivor of the earlier program, has become the leader of a terrorist group called Wild Seven and has declared war on the adult world, staging a large attack in Tokyo. In response, the government revives the Battle Royale program and sends a class of 42 high school students to the island where Nanahara is hiding, ordering them to hunt him down within three days. The students are fitted with explosive collars and paired up, so that the death of one partner means the death of the other, forcing them to depend on each other as they carry out the mission.

The film was directed by Kenta Fukasaku and Kinji Fukasaku, the sixteenth of sixteen films in Kinji Fukasaku's directing career, following Battle Royale in 2000. Kenta Fukasaku also co-wrote the screenplay with Norio Kida and served as a producer. The cast includes Shugo Oshinari as Takuma Aoi, Ai Maeda as Shiori Kitano, Tatsuya Fujiwara returning as Shuya Nanahara, Ayana Sakai, Takeshi Kitano and Natsuki Kato, among 75 credited cast members.
