Set in the sprawling city of Jakarta, this film follows four separate narratives about young people struggling with a sense of emptiness and dehumanization. To find meaning in a cold urban environment, they become obsessed with cinema and television. This fixation leads them to emulate distorted anti-heroes, resulting in anti-social behavior that eventually spirals out of control.
The movie was produced by Day For Night Films and released in 1998. It was co-directed by Riri Riza, Nan Triveni Achnas, Mira Lesmana, and Rizal Mantovani. For Riza, this was the first in a series of films that included Sherina's Adventure and Rangga & Cinta. Achnas later directed Yang Datang dan Yang Pergi, while Mantovani went on to direct numerous projects including The Train of Death and Dominion of Darkness: Rephaim. The screenplay was written by Adi Nugroho.
The ensemble cast features Bianca Adinegoro, Oppie Andaresta, Ryan Hidayat, W, Tio Pakusadewo, and Iwa K. This Indonesian production blends elements of action, comedy, and drama over a 110-minute runtime. On IMDb, the film holds a rating of 6.4/10 based on 159 votes.
