Nine Lives

Tom Brand is a wealthy businessman whose devotion to his company has left little room for his wife Lara and their daughter Rebecca. When Rebecca's birthday approaches and she wants a cat, Tom sets aside his dislike of animals and visits an unusual pet shop, where the eccentric owner sells him a large cat named Mr. Fuzzypants. On his way to the birthday celebration, Tom is in a serious accident. He wakes to find himself inside the cat's body, while his human form lies unconscious in a hospital. Taken in by his own family as their new pet, he has to navigate life as an animal and find a way to reconnect with the people he neglected.

The film is directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, whose earlier credits include The Addams Family, Get Shorty and the Men in Black films; it followed Men in Black 3 in his filmography. Kevin Spacey plays Tom, with Jennifer Garner as Lara, Robbie Amell as David, Cheryl Hines as Madison Camden, Mark Consuelos as Ian Cox and Malina Weissman as Rebecca. Caleb Wilson, Matt Allen and Gwyn Lurie wrote the screenplay, and Luc Besson was among the producers.

Made for a budget of 30 million US dollars, Nine Lives took in about 58 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.3 from roughly 26,000 votes, and on TMDB a rating of 5.8 from around 1,100 votes. A critics' rating of 3.2 from 71 reviews places it well below the audience scores.
