Wiener-Dog is a 2016 American comedy-drama written and directed by Todd Solondz. It follows a dachshund as the animal passes through a series of homes, connecting several people whose lives are unsettled in different ways. Among them are a young boy questioning the beliefs of his parents, a shy veterinary assistant who takes an impulsive trip with a man she barely knows, a screenwriter hoping for another chance in Hollywood, and an older woman whose granddaughter visits mainly when she needs money. Each of these characters finds some comfort in the dog during a difficult period, even as the animal moves on.
The film is Solondz's sixth feature, arriving after Welcome to the Dollhouse, Happiness, Storytelling and Venice 70: Future Reloaded, and it returns to performers and character names associated with his earlier work. Greta Gerwig plays Dawn Wiener, while Ellen Burstyn, Kieran Culkin, Julie Delpy, Danny DeVito and Tracy Letts are also in the cast. Solondz again serves as writer, with Megan Ellison and Christine Vachon producing for Annapurna Pictures and Killer Films.
Released in June 2016, Wiener-Dog runs 88 minutes. On TMDB it holds a rating of 5.6 out of 10 from 236 votes, indicating a modest response from viewers.
