Barbershop: The Next Cut

Barbershop: The Next Cut takes place more than a decade after the earlier entries in the series. Calvin Palmer still runs his Chicago barbershop, but hard times have forced him to combine it with Angie's beauty salon, turning what was once a men's refuge into a mixed workplace where old and new staff clash and flirt. Outside the shop, rising crime and gang violence weigh on Calvin, especially his worries about his son, and push him and his crew toward a plan to reclaim their neighborhood.

Malcolm D. Lee directs, with a screenplay by Tracy Oliver and Kenya Barris. Ice Cube returns as Calvin and also produces, alongside Robert Teitel and George Tillman Jr. Cedric the Entertainer is back as Eddie, with Regina Hall as Angie, Sean Patrick Thomas as Jimmy, Eve as Terri and Nicki Minaj as Draya.

Made for about 20 million dollars, the film earned roughly 55 million worldwide. It sits between The Best Man Holiday and Girls Trip in Lee's filmography. Critics received it better than audiences did: it holds 6.9/10 from 92 reviews, compared with 5.9/10 on IMDb from around 17,000 votes and 6.3/10 on TMDB from a few hundred.
