The Dirt

The Dirt tells the story of Mötley Crüe, the Los Angeles glam metal band that rose from the Sunset Strip club circuit in the early 1980s to international fame. It follows bassist Nikki Sixx, drummer Tommy Lee, guitarist Mick Mars and singer Vince Neil as they come together, score hit records and become as well known for their offstage excesses as for their music. The film is based on the band's autobiography, written with a New York Times journalist, and traces both their success and the personal setbacks that came with it.

Jeff Tremaine directed, working from a screenplay by Rich Wilkes and Amanda Adelson. It sits between the Jackass films in Tremaine's filmography, arriving after Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa .5 and before Jackass Forever. The cast includes Machine Gun Kelly as Tommy Lee, Douglas Booth as Nikki Sixx, Daniel Webber as Vince Neil, Iwan Rheon as Mick Mars, Pete Davidson as Tom Zutaut and David Costabile as Doc McGhee, among 98 credited performers.

Released in March 2019 and running 108 minutes, the film drew a mixed response from critics, whose rating of 4.7 out of 10 from 74 reviews is noticeably lower than the audience scores of 7 out of 10 on IMDb from around 60,000 votes and 7.4 out of 10 on TMDB. The gap suggests viewers responded to the film more warmly than reviewers did.
