Mimic: Sentinel

Mimic: Sentinel is a horror and science fiction film about Marvin Montrose, a young asthmatic who lives sealed inside a sterile apartment. His condition dates back to an outbreak caused years earlier by giant mutant insects. Unable to go outside, Marvin passes the time photographing his neighborhood through a window-mounted camera, until he becomes convinced that something inhuman is responsible for the disappearance of people living nearby. His sister Rosy and her friend Carmen join him as he tries to work out what is happening in the building across the street.

The film was directed by J.T. Petty, who also wrote the screenplay with Donald A. Wollheim. It is the first of the three features Petty directed, followed by The Burrowers in 2008 and Hellbenders in 2013. Karl Geary plays Marvin, with Alexis Dziena as Rosy, Rebecca Mader as Carmen, Lance Henriksen as the Garbageman and Tudorel Filimon as the Birdman, among a credited cast of 21. It was produced by W.K. Border and Ron Schmidt for Neo Art & Logic on a budget of 10 million USD.

Released in April 2003 and running 77 minutes, the film is rated 4.2 out of 10 on IMDb from around 4,400 votes and 4.9 out of 10 on TMDB from 175 votes. Both figures point to a modest audience response.
