Saw

Saw is an Australian short horror film that introduced the premise later expanded into a feature-length series. David, a hospital orderly, is questioned by a police officer and recounts how he was abducted and forced to take part in a cruel game in which his survival depended on following instructions. A nurse and a motionless figure also appear in the interrogation setting that frames his account.

The film runs about ten minutes and was released in October 2003. James Wan directed it as the first entry in his filmography, working from a screenplay by Leigh Whannell, who also plays David. Darren McFarlane produced, and the small cast includes Paul Moder as the officer, Katrina Mathers as the nurse and Dean Francis as the body. Wan and Whannell went on to make the 2004 feature Saw, the second title in Wan's directing career, whose later films include Death Sentence and Dead Silence, Insidious and The Conjuring, Furious 7, Aquaman, Malignant and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
