Unfaithfully Yours

Sir Alfred De Carter is a celebrated symphony conductor who, before leaving on a short trip to Europe, casually asks his brother-in-law August to keep an eye on his young wife, Daphne. August takes the request far more seriously than intended and hires a private detective. The investigator's report hints that Daphne may have been involved with Sir Alfred's secretary, Tony, and the conductor's jealousy takes over. While leading a concert, he imagines several different ways of responding to the supposed betrayal, each shaped by the music he is conducting.

Preston Sturges wrote, produced and directed the film, which followed The Sin of Harold Diddlebock in his filmography and marked his fourth directorial credit after Sullivan's Travels and The Lady Eve. Rex Harrison plays Sir Alfred, with Linda Darnell as Daphne, Rudy Vallee and Barbara Lawrence as August and Barbara Henshler, Kurt Kreuger as Tony Windborn and Lionel Stander as Hugo Standoff. The film was released by 20th Century Fox in November 1948 and runs 105 minutes.

Audience response has been favorable: on IMDb it holds a 7.4 rating from roughly 6,300 votes, and on TMDB a 7.3 from about 128 votes. A critics' rating of 8.5 out of 10, based on 17 reviews, places critical assessment noticeably above the audience scores.
