Scanners III: The Takeover

Helena and Alex Monet share a secret: both are scanners, able to control objects and living beings with their thoughts. The power leaves Helena with severe, persistent headaches, and she begins taking an experimental drug developed by her father. The pain stops, but her abilities grow far stronger, and her personality shifts. As she turns her power on those around her and pursues a plan to place scanners above everyone else, Alex, who has lived quietly in an Asian monastery, learns of their father's death and his sister's behavior. He returns to confront her.

Scanners III: The Takeover is a Canadian-American action and science fiction film directed by Christian Duguay, released in 1992. It was the third film he directed in chronological order, between Live Wire and Screamers. David Preston, Julie Richard and B.J. Nelson wrote the screenplay, René Malo produced, and the 95-minute film cost about five million dollars. Steve Parrish plays Alex, Liliana Głąbczyńska plays Helena, and Valérie Valois, Colin Fox, Daniel Pilon and Peter Wight appear among the forty credited cast members.

The film stands as a sequel within a series that began with David Cronenberg's Scanners in 1981, and it follows the earlier films' premise of telepathic people whose abilities make them dangerous. On IMDb it holds a rating of 4.5 out of 10 from roughly 2,900 votes, and on TMDB a rating of 4.4 out of 10 from 127 votes.
