Armitage III: Poly Matrix

In a future where humanity has settled Mars, tensions have grown between people and the robots known as Seconds, who handle much of the work and are blamed for unemployment and hardship. When detective Ross Sylibus arrives on the planet, he is paired with Naomi Armitage, an unconventional officer, and the two investigate a series of killings of women. The victims turn out to be illegally built third-generation androids, beings able to pass as human, and the murders feed public hostility toward machines. The case draws the partners into a wider conspiracy.

Armitage III: Poly Matrix is a 1996 animated science fiction thriller directed by Takuya Sato, whose later work includes the 2013 film Steins;Gate: The Movie - Load Region of Déjà Vu and Fragtime in 2019. The screenplay is by Chiaki J. Konaka and Akinori Endo, and the English voice cast features Elizabeth Berkley as Naomi Armitage, Kiefer Sutherland as Ross, Dan Woren, Wanda Nowicki, Mike Reynolds and Bryan Cranston.

Reception has been modest. On IMDb the film holds a rating of 6.7 from around 2,000 votes, while on TMDB it has a 6.5 from a much smaller base of 72 votes. The two audiences are broadly in agreement, placing the film as a watchable but not exceptional entry in 1990s anime science fiction.
