Dragon Ball Z: Fusion Reborn takes place largely in the afterlife, where a tournament is underway to decide the champion of the four galaxies. A young demon working in the underworld shirks his duties, causing the machine that purifies souls to overload and explode. The released evil energy transforms him into Janemba, a monster powerful enough to throw both the world of the dead and the world of the living into disorder, and the dead begin rising from their graves on Earth. Goku and Vegeta each try to fight the creature alone, but they conclude that only fusion will give them a chance against him, while Gohan, Goten and Trunks deal with the chaos on Earth.
The film is the tenth of fifteen directed by Shigeyasu Yamauchi, following Crying Freeman 6: The Guiding Light of Memory and preceding Dragon Ball: The Path to Power, with a screenplay by Takao Koyama. It was released in Japan in March 1995 and runs just under an hour. Masako Nozawa voices Goku, Gohan, Goten, Gogeta, Veku and Gotenks, with Ryou Horikawa as Vegeta, Gogeta and Veku, Takeshi Kusao as Trunks and Gotenks, and Daisuke Gori, Hiromi Tsuru and Naoko Watanabe in supporting roles.
The film took in about 24 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 7.6 out of 10 from roughly 14,000 votes, and on TMDB it also stands at 7.6 out of 10 from around 960 votes, indicating a similarly positive response from both audiences.
