Love the Coopers
Short description
Love the Coopers follows four generations of the Cooper family as they gather for their annual Christmas Eve celebration. Charlotte and Sam Cooper are hosting, and the long-married couple are keeping a decision about their future to themselves until the holiday is over, so as not to unsettle their children. Across the extended family, other relatives arrive carrying secrets and private worries of their own, and the evening's plans are disrupted by unexpected visitors and turns of events. What begins as a tense reunion gradually moves the family toward a renewed sense of their bonds and the meaning of the season.
The film is a comedy drama with family themes, written by Steven Rogers and directed by Jessie Nelson, whose previous features were Corrina, Corrina and I Am Sam. Diane Keaton and John Goodman lead the cast as Charlotte and Sam, with Ed Helms, Amanda Seyfried and Alan Arkin among the large ensemble, and Steve Martin providing the voice of Rags. It was produced by Imagine Entertainment, CBS Films, Groundswell Productions and Handwritten Films on a budget of about 17 million dollars, and it took roughly 42 million dollars worldwide.
Released in November 2015, the film drew a mixed response. Its IMDb rating of 5.8 from around 30,000 votes and TMDB rating of 6 out of 10 from a smaller number of users sit well above the critics' rating of 3.9 out of 10 from 119 reviews, so critics were considerably harsher on it than audiences were.
