Short description

Kazakhstan. 1954. Copper mines. Concentration camp. In the center of the plot - a revolt which prisoners raised in protest against the inhuman treatment.

What's left behind the scenes

The film's plot is tied to a real event—the largest prisoner uprising of 1954 in Kazakhstan.
The film was shot in the city of Balkhash using special film stock to achieve a "yellowish" image—creating the effect of a documentary.
During the August coup, filming was suspended and the film reels were buried in the ground.
