Rams

Two brothers, Gummi and Kiddi, live side by side in a remote Icelandic valley, raising sheep from an ancestral stock regarded as among the finest in the country. Their rams win prizes, but the brothers themselves have not spoken in four decades. When a fatal disease appears in Kiddi's flock, the whole valley is placed under threat, and the authorities order the slaughter of every sheep in the area to stop the outbreak. Most farmers give up their land, but the brothers each resist in his own way, and the disaster forces them to confront the silence between them.

Grímur Hákonarson directed and wrote the film, which sits between Summerland and The County in his body of work as his third feature. Sigurður Sigurjónsson plays Gummi and Theodór Júlíusson plays Kiddi, with Charlotte Bøving, Jón Benónýsson, Gunnar Jónsson and Sveinn Ólafur Gunnarsson among a credited cast of 25. The production was a Nordic and Polish co-production spanning Denmark, Iceland, Norway and Poland.

Rams runs 93 minutes. It holds a 7.2 rating on IMDb from around 16,000 votes and a 7 on TMDB from 311 votes, while a critics' score of 7.7 from 108 reviews places professional assessments above the scores general viewers gave it.
