Ivan Beckman is one of Hollywood's most successful talent agents, a man at the top of his professional world. His death opens the story, and the film then moves back several days to show how he got there. At that point his career peaks when he signs the international star Don West to his agency. From there the film follows Ivan through the days that lead up to his death, and through the extremes of his life in the industry.
Bernard Rose directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Lisa Enos, who also produced. The film is the seventh of fourteen features Rose directed, coming between Anna Karenina in 1997 and Snuff-Movie in 2005. Danny Huston plays Ivan, with Peter Weller as Don West, Lisa Enos as Charlotte White, Joanne Duckman as Marcia Beckman, Angela Featherstone as Amanda Hill and Caroleen Feeney as Rosemary Kramer. The credited cast numbers fifty-three, and the film runs ninety-four minutes.
Released in September 2000, the drama drew a film critics' rating of 6.9 out of 10 from thirty-one reviews, notably higher than its audience scores: 6.4 out of 10 on IMDb from around 1,600 votes and 5.6 out of 10 on TMDB from thirty votes.
