American Honey

Star, an eighteen-year-old who has spent her life in a small town looking after her younger siblings, leaves her troubled home and joins a crew of young drifters who travel the American Midwest selling magazine subscriptions door to door. She settles quickly into their life of long parties, small hustles and passing romances, and becomes drawn to Jake, an outgoing member of the group. He is involved with Krystal, a young woman who runs the crew's sales operation and has few qualms about its dishonest methods. As the van moves from town to town, Star's unease with the way the group makes its money grows, and she must decide how much longer she wants to stay.

Andrea Arnold directed and wrote the film, her fourth feature after Red Road, Fish Tank and Wuthering Heights, working with producers Lars Knudsen, Jay Van Hoy and Thomas Benski for Film4, Pulse Films, Parts and Labor and the BFI. Sasha Lane plays Star, with Shia LaBeouf as Jake, Riley Keough as Krystal, and Arielle Holmes, McCaul Lombardi and Crystal Ice among the cast of 29 credited performers.
