Mona Hubbard is a determined woman striving to win the Miss American Miss beauty pageant. Because the competition rules forbid contestants from being mothers, Mona asks her best friend Ruby to raise her daughter, Vanessa, as if she were her own. While Mona focuses on the fame and prestige of the crown, she eventually finds her maternal instincts conflicting with her ambition to win. As she nears the title, she faces unexpected competition that forces her to reconsider the value of beauty and success.
