Modigliani

Set in Paris in 1919, this drama follows the final days of the Italian painter Amedeo Modigliani. The story focuses on his intense professional and personal rivalry with Pablo Picasso, fueled by mutual jealousy and arrogance. Parallel to this conflict is Modigliani's relationship with Jeanne, a Catholic woman. Because Modigliani is Jewish, Jeanne's prejudiced parents oppose the union and secretly send the couple's child to a distant convent. To escape poverty, Modigliani enters a major art competition, prompting Picasso to do the same.

Directed and written by Mick Davis, this was the first of two films he directed, followed by Walden in 2023. The movie stars Andy García in the title role, alongside Elsa Zylberstein, Omid Djalili, Hippolyte Girardot, Eva Herzigová, and Miriam Margolyes. Produced through a collaboration between companies in Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, Romania, the United States, and France, the film had a budget of 14 million USD but earned only 1 million USD at the worldwide box office.
