Short description

Angela Baker, who has been confined in a mental hospital, is released and turns up at a summer camp under a new identity. Posing as a counselor, she lectures the teenage campers on what she considers proper behavior and targets those who break her rules, killing them in various ways. As campers begin to disappear, a counselor named Molly starts to work out what is happening. The story is set five years after the events of the first film, at Camp Rolling Hills.

Sleepaway Camp II: Unhappy Campers is a 1988 American horror comedy directed by Michael A. Simpson, who also produced it with Jerry Silva, from a screenplay by Robert Hiltzik and Michael Hitchcock. It was Simpson's first feature, followed the next year by Sleepaway Camp III: Teenage Wasteland. Pamela Springsteen plays Angela Johnson, with Renée Estevez as Molly Nagle, Tony Higgins, Valerie Hartman, Brian Patrick Clarke and Walter Gotell among the twenty credited cast members.

The film runs eighty minutes. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.5 from around 15,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 5.8 from roughly 331 votes. A critics' rating of 5.1 from twelve reviews places it close to the audience scores, indicating broadly comparable, middling reactions.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Felissa Rose was offered the lead role again, and she even read the script, but she didn’t like that her character was full of snappy remarks, so she turned it down. In addition, Rose was preparing to apply to college at that time.
  • The protagonist's dream sequence was filmed to bring the film's duration up to the required length, namely 80 minutes.
  • Some members of the acting ensemble were 16-17 years old, meaning they were considered minors, so state authorities sent their representatives to the set to ensure that the minors were not being forced to appear in scenes with nudity or to swear and use obscenities.
  • During filming, Terry Hobbs, who played the role of Rob, was a minor, so Valerie Hartman performed the love scene with a body double. Whenever Hartman is shown nude, Hobbs was not on set.
