Short description
Jack Reacher returns to the Virginia headquarters of his former military police unit hoping to meet Major Susan Turner, the officer who now holds the command he once had. Instead he finds that Turner has been arrested and accused of espionage, and that he himself faces serious allegations, including a murder said to have happened sixteen years earlier. Convinced that Turner is innocent and that someone is working to discredit them both, Reacher sets out to break her out and uncover who is behind the charges.
The film is a sequel to Jack Reacher (2012) and again stars Tom Cruise in the title role, with Cobie Smulders as Turner. Aldis Hodge, Danika Yarosh, Patrick Heusinger and Holt McCallany appear in supporting parts. Edward Zwick directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Marshall Herskovitz and Richard Wenk; Cruise produced alongside Christopher McQuarrie and Don Granger. Zwick's earlier directing credits include Glory, The Last Samurai, Blood Diamond and Pawn Sacrifice, released the year before this one.
Made for a budget of about 60 million dollars, the film took roughly 162 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.2 from about 192,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6 from roughly 5,500 votes. A critics' rating of 5.2 from 244 reviews places it below both audience scores.
