The Shack

The Shack follows Mack Phillips, a man whose life is upended by a family tragedy. Years after his youngest daughter disappears during a camping trip, with the last trace of her found at a remote forest shelter, Mack is still consumed by grief and doubt. A mysterious letter arrives, inviting him to return to that same isolated place, where it says God will meet him. Despite his uncertainty, Mack goes, and the encounter he finds there forces him to confront his loss and rethink what he believes.

The film is directed by Stuart Hazeldine, whose only previous feature was Exam in 2009. Sam Worthington plays Mack, with Octavia Spencer, Tim McGraw, Aviv Alush, Sumire Matsubara and Radha Mitchell among the credited cast. The screenplay was written by John Fusco, Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Lanham, and the production was made for 20 million dollars. It went on to take about 97 million dollars worldwide, a strong return against its budget.
