Hawking

This drama follows the early life of cosmologist Stephen Hawking. Starting in 1963, the story focuses on his time as a student and his developing relationship with Jane Wilde. As Hawking pursues his research into the origins of the universe and the Big Bang, he is diagnosed with a motor neuron disease. Despite a prognosis that gives him only two years to live and the progressive loss of his physical abilities, he continues his academic work and strives for scientific success.

Produced by the BBC in the United Kingdom, this television movie was directed by Philip Martin. It is the first in a listed series of his directorial works, followed by Einstein and Eddington, Mo, The Forger, and Scoop. The screenplay was written by Peter Moffat and produced by Jessica Pope.
