Cracks

Cracks is set at a secluded British boarding school for girls in the 1930s, where a group of students idolises their charismatic diving instructor, Miss G. The girls are captivated by her stories of travel and adventure, and Di, the group's ringleader, considers herself Miss G's favourite. Their world is unsettled by the arrival of Fiamma, a new pupil from Spain, whose independence and beauty draw Miss G's attention away from the others. Jealousy spreads among the girls, and the shifting loyalties around Miss G set off a chain of events that costs them their innocence.

The film is the second feature directed by Jordan Scott, following All the Invisible Children and preceding A Sacrifice. Ben Court, Caroline Ip and Scott wrote the screenplay, and the cast is led by Eva Green as Miss G, with Juno Temple as Di, María Valverde as Fiamma and Imogen Poots as Poppy. It was produced by Christine Vachon, Andrew Lowe and Kwesi Dickson, with Scott Free Productions, StudioCanal, Element Pictures and Atresmedia among the companies behind it.

Released in December 2009, the film has an IMDb rating of 6.6 out of 10 from around 22,000 votes, and a matching 6.6 on TMDB from a much smaller base of 453 votes. A critics' rating of 5.8 out of 10 from 53 reviews places it slightly below the audience scores, suggesting a moderately received drama whose ensemble cast and boarding-school setting found a steadier response among viewers than reviewers.
